Praesence Score: Arriving into the Here and Now

Score introduction: This is an early iteration of the praesence scores, where we were exploring arriving in the here and now by arriving into our own bodies. This brought a somatic focus to the self. This score (although it is an early draft) could be used as a warm up or as a centering part of your rehearsal or experience. This version contains amendments by the dance artists as [ ]. There is the invitation for you to make your own amendments as well.

This score starts with lying down/or sitting which ever you prefer - [comfort, availability, where have you found yourself?]. Open or closed eyes. If movement happens or doesn’t happen that’s fine. This is about attending.

Take a moment to check in with yourself and arrive in the present, in the now [what are the sensations of nowness? If you do not feel in the present, how does that feel?]

Expand you awareness to the outside. Perhaps you can hear people, cars, and other movements happening, in the distance.

Gradually bring your focus into the space that you’re in. [What are you noticing?] Notice the temperature, the presence of  walls around you, the reach of your kinesphere, [perhaps you can sense the edge of your kinesphere without moving?] And then gradually focus in on your breath

Notice how [and if?] your breathing gives a sense of spreading, expanding from and contracting back towards your centre. Feel yourself draw breath in and release it into space.
