Mapping Score into World Traveling Score

Score introduction: This score aims to bring a collective awareness and make visible some of the histories, relations, power structures, and memories carried into the space of the immersive experience or rehearsal. For this score each participant, including the facilitator, needs a piece of tracing paper and some pens.

For this score we are going to acknowledge and make visible some of what we’ve carried into space today, and what makes us who we are, and feel what we feel.

This score is about acknowledging that this space, and us as people existing in this space are not separate but part of a wider world.

Firstly I’m going to invite you to map, or draw or even just express what your body is feeling right now on your tracing paper.

It doesn’t have to be a literal drawing, it can be an abstract squiggle, or if drawing feels unavailable to you, then some words.

In addition to this feeling, can I invite you to also draw three forces on your tracing paper. By forces, I mean three energies, entities or forces that are currently affecting the way you are feeling.

These could be meteorological or physical forces, like the weather, the sun, the seasons or gravity.

They could be societal or political, such as capitalism or the patriarchy.

They could be familial or ancestral, memories from the past, relations with family and friends, and heritages

And finally, a gentle note to care for your boundaries in this score. This is not about having to divulge your innermost self, it can stay light and frivolous if you want it to. This score or process of mapping it is an opportunity to share some elements of yourself and your engagement with the world that you are bringing into this space.

Take 10 minutes or so with this first part of the score. Mapping your three forces and a feeling.

Once you have mapped, can I invite you to get into groups of three or four to share your maps, again being mindful that you don’t have to share every aspect of it.

Once you have all shared what you want to, can I invite you all to layer and position your maps, however you want to in relation to one another, to create a larger map, representative of your group?

Have a chat about how this evolves your relationship to your forces and feeling

Can I then invite you to try several iterations of layering, as the forces, energies and lineages we bring into the space aren't fixed, but continually shifting and in dialogue.

A Mini Adventure (World Travelling) Score:

Can everyone in the space bring your maps together as a whole group and create one large map, representative of the many invisible yet real energies, relationships, histories, lineages and assemblages that exist in this workshop space

Once you have created this map, can I invite you to your index and middle finger, place them somewhere on the tracing paper, and walking these two fingers, and go on mini adventure, exploring the many worlds contained within this large group map.

Where do you want to rest, jump or fly to, skip over or wander through?
